National Webinar on “Environmental Education - Career Opportunities in Environmental Science” was organized by the Eco-Club

Greater Noida / Noida_Today 19th June, 2021 a National Webinar on “Environmental Education - Career Opportunities in Environmental Science” was organized by the Eco-Club of the Department of Environmental Science, School of Vocational Studies and Applied Sciences, Gautam Buddha University, Greater Noida.
This occasion was graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University Prof. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma. The participants included Deans of various Schools of the University, Head of the Departments, faculty, students and alumni of GBU, and students and faculty members of various other universities of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Harayana, Punjab and Bihar.   
Prof. N.P. Melkania, Dean SoVSAS welcomed the dignitaries, invited speakers and all other participants, and introduced the theme of the Webinar to the audience. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor GBU Prof. Bhagwati Prakash Sharma addressed the Webinar. In his remarks Prof. Sharma said: “There is a need to make people aware about the consequences of unsustainable utilization of nature and natural resources.” He stressed upon the opportunities of research and development on environmentally viable technologies. He said that there is a need of input from industrial sector in producing eco-friendly products like biodegradable soaps and detergents which have minimum adverse environmental impacts as compared to synthetic detergents. Further, he expressed concern on indiscriminate use of Neonicotinoid insecticides in the country which cause colony collapse syndrome leading to memory loss in honey bees, which play an important role in the process of pollination in crops, vegetables and orchard species. He stressed upon the need of using hydrogen fuel cells instead of using lithium-ion cells as the hydrogen fuel cells are eco-friendly energy storing devices and yield less pollution as compared to lithium-ion cells.
Among the invited speakers, Prof. Varun Joshi of IP University Delhi gave a detailed and multipronged information on various job opportunities for the students of Environmental Science. Another invited speaker Prof. Rajeev Kumar Srivastava Chairman State Environmental Appraisal Committee, Govt. of Uttarakhand, and Head Department of Environmental Science, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar discussed the employment related problems and opportunities in different functional aspects of the Environmental Science. He stated that degree holders in Environmental Science have better opportunities in medium scale industries as Environmental Experts and entrepreneurs.

In his address to the participants, Dean of the SoVSAS Prof. N.P. Melkania stressed upon building human resource equipped with generalised as well as specialized knowledge and skills in the areas of Environmental Science. Prof. Melkania shared to the participants that the Department of Environmental Science at GBU is engaged in imparting quality environmental education and creating quality human resource capable of meeting the contemporary environmental challenges, demands of industry, as well as the expectations of the society. He explained that the Department has strong linkages with Government Institutions, NGOs, Private sector companies, renowned academic research institutions, Central Universities and agricultural Universities. The students are benefited through these associations during their academic pursuits.  
The programme was anchored by Dr. Prachi Nautiyal in coordination with Dr. Asha Pandey and Dr. Shiv Shankar from the Department of Environmental Sciences. Ms. Ankita Banerjee, the youngest faculty of the Department gave an effective presentation on job opportunities in Environmental Science.
During this Webinar, the alumni of the Department of Environmental Science Miss Anjali Sharma, Miss Guncha Sharma, Mr. Devanshu Rastogi and Mr. Yashant shared their memories and experiences during study and service career. 
Dr. Sarita Joshi of the Department of Environmental Science extended “Vote of Thanks” which was followed by National Anthem.
